Marines:

Shan just got off the phone with Cindy and she informed us that John has been in the hospital since last Wednesday. She had to call 911 after John was coughing up blood then collapsed.

He has 4 bleeding ulcers and possibly gout. He no longer has the strength to stand to use his walker and is just plain weak from losing so much blood. They’ve given him a couple transfusions and looks like another one today.

Gene, John did notice that you called,  but has just not been up to talking to anyone yet. Shan asked Cindy if she wanted us to send out a communication to you all and she thought that was good.

He’s currently at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, WA.

Cindy said that as soon as he gains some strength they will move him to a rehab center.  She is hoping for tomorrow, but he is still very weak and that may not happen. Cindy suggested that may be a better time for communication with John.  He’s not up to visitors or taking phone calls right now.  She promised to call Shan as soon as she found out when and where they will be moving John.  We will pass that information on to everyone.

I’m sure John would covet your prayers for his healing. Cindy needs our prayers too.

Cindy sent a text last night to let us know that if you would like to send John either text messages, or emails, that he could pick both up on his phone.  She thought he would now appreciate hearing from you.   She said not to expect a reply.   He is still in the hospital.  She is looking for a good rehab facility for him.    When she sends that info, we will pass it on so you can send cards, flowers, whatever.  John's Email: Click Here

Charlie - Thanks so much for your note, that happens to be my favorite Irish prayer.  As of the 18th I moved home from the rehab facility but things are not going well.  I am in the hospital as of Sunday unable to manage the pain at home.  I would appreciate it if you could put out an email to my recon brothers that I am approaching my final harbor site although the doctors have not given me a time line.  Focus now is on pain control and comfort. Please tell everyone that they will always have a special place in my heart.   Please tell everyone to inform those whose email you may not have.  Semper Fi  --

We received the following text from Cindy today. She asked us not to come last week because they couldn’t get John’s pain under control.
“ You and Dave should come soon. All of John's brothers and sisters have been here this weekend. I dont think he is going to last long”

She also wanted everyone to know now is the time to call if you would like. We will be going up on Tuesday
