Obituary of Bruce Ware
Bruce Ware, 73, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Tuesday, August 28. He was predeceased by his parents, Wellford & Peggy Ware. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dr. Barbara Ware and his three children: Brett (Nicole) Ware of Savannah, GA; Alyssa (David) LaForce of Redondo Beach, CA; Bruce Douglas of Eugene, OR, his special fishing buddy, his grandson, Jacob LaForce, his brothers Jeff (Helen) Ware, Jack Ware and four nephews and two nieces and their families. Bruce was born September 18, 1944 in Woodbury to Wellford and Peggy Ware. Bruce grew up in Pitman. Bruce was the owner of Moore's Liquor Store and the Mayor of Pitman from 1994 - 2002. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged as a Captain of the United Stated Marine Corps. Bruce received his undergraduate degree in theater at University of Arizona. He received his MBA and completed his education at the U of MD, receiving his JD, as did his father and grandfather. Bruce was a man of many hats but did nothing but the best at every single position he held, husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle, friend, business man, US Marine, Councilman and Mayor. Bruce's favorite activity was fishing A lot of people that passed by Moore's would also catch a glimpse of a man fly fishing for cow patties. That was Bruce. Even without water Bruce still needed his fishing time if just to practice. Fishing was one of the reasons he loved living in NH where he spent hours fishing in the local ponds. When he moved to Delaware he was able to surf fish almost every day and fish off of his house balcony at any time. It was quite the retirement life. Bruce was an avid reader, rarely would you find him without a book under his arm or by his side. He also loved everything about his time in Pitman NJ. He proudly served Pitman as a Councilman for 21 years and then his 3 terms as Mayor of Pitman. A man above men. Bruce had a pragmatic bipartisan answer for everything. He gave the most truthful amazing advice to anyone that would ask. His knowledge was endless. He had an undying generosity towards his community, friends and especially family. The end of his life was a summer joyfully spent with his beloved grandson, Jacob. His memorial service will be held on Friday, August 31st at KELLEY FUNERAL HOME, 125 Pitman Ave, Pitman, NJ, visitation to begin at 6PM and service to follow at 8PM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's at www.michaeljfox.org.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd like to share some real hope with you. In Psalms 146:4 tells the condition of the dead. "His breath goeth forth, he returneth to the earth and that very day his thoughts perish." In Acts 24:15 the bible promises a resurrection of our loved ones back to earth. When Jesus resurrected Lazarus from the dead, he brought him back to earth. He's going to do that on a much larger scale in the future. In Psalms 37:11+29 says man will live forever on the earth in peace. That was God's original purpose, for man to live forever in the garden of eden. God's purpose hasn't changed. That's why he gave his son to die for us, John 3:16, so we could have everlasting life. In Revelation 21:4 says there'll be no more pain or death. Since there's no pain or death in heaven, those are future conditions on earth under God's kingdom arrangement. JW.org

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on.
Bruce was an exceptional person with a quick wit and obvious devotion to his family and friends. Barbara you have my most sincere sympathy for his passing. Surely Bruce will not be forgotten.

Bruce was always quick with his wit and smile. He was knowledgeable, congenial, loyal, hilarious and dedicated all at the same time. I was privileged enough to see him as an active and involved parent, citizen and businessman. I always felt like a member of the family when in his company, and am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. He will live in my memory and continue to get the best of me there as he did in life. I hope that pleases him.

For years our kids threw the Gloucester County Times to Bruce and Barbara. They were always good tippers for our kids. I remember when Bruce was the mayor in Pitman and Pitman Council of Churches clergy would begin each council meeting with an invocation. Bruce was always there and engaged, and in his typically dignified manner he directed each meeting.

We have missed having the Wares in our neighbor, and I am now honored to be able to share memories and words of encouragement and hope at his service.

I am so appreciative of his service to our country as a marine during the Viet Nam war, and then as a public servant to our community, serving our local government in Pitman as first as a councilman and then as a mayor.

Blessings from Dan and Katherine Cooper and the family, just around the corner.

I met Bruce in 1974, when we were bankers in an MBA-level management training program in Baltimore. I thought the job was difficult; Bruce handled it easily, while going to law school in his spare time. We enjoyed socializing after work, and our wives, Barbara and Pam, became good friends, too.

After a few years as bankers, we went in different directions. But over the years we stayed in touch and got together occasionally. Now that we were all retired, just this year, the four of us were looking forward to spending time together. We were fixing up the guest room for their arrival.

Bruce was a Marine in Vietnam, with arduous and distinguished service. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather. Bruce was a hardworking and successful businessman and public servant. He was broadly knowledgeable and the wisest person I knew, and I sought his opinion and advice. Bottom line, Bruce excelled in everything he did.

They don't make them like Bruce Ware anymore. He will be missed.

To my surprise and gratitude, Bruce, and Barbara, became our friends later here in life. Bruce and I finally fished together off the beach a couple of weeks ago, enjoyed a steak cooked on his new grill, and took a walk to the mailboxes. And, he drove us on the wild ride on the beach. I treasure these moments now along with the heartache. Vic Pantesco

My condolences to Barbara and their children, Jeff and all the family. Bruce was my first boyhood friend when we were around 6 or so. I remember going to the big white house on the corner of Cedar avenue, opening the gate to visit with Bruce and getting a big wet slobber from the family St. Bernard, Tina. I was always welcome in the Ware house as Bruce was in mine on Florence Ave. We had many good times as kids, riding bikes, hunting for frogs in creek behind my house, etc.

We didn't keep in touch after PHS. I last saw Bruce @ the 50th reunion. I see from the obituary that he lived a wonderful and extremely full life. God Bless!

I served under Bruce as Clerk/Administrator for his entire term as Mayor. He was a fair, kind, intelligent, and courageous man. He cared about people. We have one of the nicest parks in south Jersey thanks to his and Doug Stuart’s leadership. He also was instrumental in getting McCowan Library renovated among many other things. Most Pitman residents don’t know how much he did for the town because he did things quietly. Our town is a better place thanks to his leadership. He protected me and taught me so much about how to live honorably. RIP Mayor. I will miss you.
