Hillard Jerome "Jerry" Hairston

Portsmouth, Virginia

After They Are Gone

When someone we love passes away,
We ache, but we go on;
Our dear departed would want us to heal,
After they are gone.

Grief is a normal way to mend
The anguish and pain in our hearts;
We need time to remember and time to mourn,
Before the recovery starts.

Let's draw together to recuperate,
As we go through this period of sorrow;
Let's help each other, with tender care
To find a brighter tomorrow.

Jerry has been a true friend, a workmate, a classmate, a fellow veteran, and a fraternity brother over fifty years. He was passionate about life and considerate of people. We could talk for hours and disagree on very little. I sincerely pray that Mike and Kevin stay strong during this challenging time. RG out

To Michael and Kevin

There is nothing that can take the place of your memories of Jerome. I know you have shared many happy moments, laughter and fun. Always keep a memory that will make you smile. I would be the last one to tell you not to be sad because sadness is a part of our grieving and we have a right to feel it when it comes. Continue to live and do things you would have enjoyed together. His spirit is free to enjoy them with you!

Jesus said: Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

We pray for you daily and thank God for you always.

Love,

Shirley, Michael, Johnathon, Gabriel, Martiece and Zhuri

So saddened to hear of the passing of one of my NSU buddies. Many years we would meet the brothers as we traveled whereever NSU was playing (football or basketball). They were the first to be at the door or gate checking things out and get the best seats (reserved). We could always count on them being there. Remembering the good times. Praying for the family that the peace of God will comfort and strengthen them. Treasure the memories. RIH Jerry. Shalom, JackiB.

All of our lives have been touched, but we will never forget the family fun we've shared. We'll love "J" and continue our traditions in his memory until the last of us are gone. Mike and Kevin, we are praying for your strength in this difficult time and we're here for you "ALWAYS".
Love you guys from your Camp Branch cousins!

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends, colleagues and neighbors on the passing of the beloved Jerry. He was a classmate of mine at NSU and a colleague of mine At NAVSECENLANT. He is sorely missed.

My condolences to the family. I would like to share a positive message that has helped many people in their time of grief. God offers open communication with him in 1 Peter 5:7-" You throw all your anxiety upon him because he cares for you." How nice to know that God cares so much to invite us to talk to him. May God be with your family in your great need.
