The Chapter Mourns The Passing Of

PFC USMC 1950 - 1953 Korean War Veteran

Known to his friends and fellow Marines as Maury
passed away September 9th, 2018 and was laid to rest at Eden
Cemetary in North Hills California on September 21st.

Maury had been in the hospital for cancer and was later
transferred to a convalescent hospital where he spent his
final days.

I have the birth for Maury as July 18th, 1930 I know he would remind
us at Chapter meeting that he was pushing 90.

Maury served on the LA Chapter Board of Directors for many years and would donate many Marine trinkets at our Chapter function that he had from his business, Starr Promotional Products..

Maury was proud of his Marine Corps Service and that he was assigned to 1st Recon.. At 1st Marine Division Association gathering many would refer to Maury as “RECON STARR”

Maury saw combat with 1st Recon and his decorations included the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Ribbon and Korean War Ribbon .

I loved to hear his tales of those days in Korea. He knew many of our Corps great leaders one of which became a dear fiend to him, Lt.Gen Jim Day, Medal of Honor recipient.

The only member to attend his service from the Chapter was Chuck “Doc” Gore who reported that about 25 people were present.

PFC Maurice J. Starr was laid to rest with full Military Honors. Semper Fi Maury. And God Bless you.
