Hello Duke and Floyd,

Semper Fidelis, Duke!

You must have left 1st Recon Bn just as
I was arriving. They had just returned from “Op Lo-Hi”, the hike from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney (or was it the other way around?). This was early 1960. I was in H&S comm. Good times.

Good afternoon Bill!
It's good to hear from you.
I believe that the 1st Recon Bn. was re-purposed after I left in April of 1959. Do you agree?
Maybe Floyd can help me understand this?
With all the machinations going on in Washington DC these days, it's very difficult to get the straight scoop anymore.
Semper Fi,
Duke

I am sorry but I don't know. Maybe Charlie could answer your question.

1st Recon 2024 Reunion Information & email

1st Marine Division Association & 1st Recon Battalion Association
San Antonio, Texas, at the San Antonio Riverwalk Holiday Inn.
August 19-25, 2024

Marine Recon is among the most secretive and highly trained organizations within the Corps. Since 1957, the elite group has distinguished itself as a force composed of ambitious, reliable, and highly lethal Marines. They’re better trained and better equipped than standard infantrymen. Yet, the elite warfighters are not considered special operations — for good reason.

This video is all about the United States Marine Corps Reconnaissance Battalions. Recon Marines are highly trained and an elite fighting force for the U.S. military. Trained to both jump and dive, they are able to insert into the battlefield deep behind enemy lines by whatever means necessary. If you’re interested in joining the Marine Corps with a recon contract, you should watch this video to learn about what Recon Marines do, what their training pipeline consists of, and how to become one.

Good morning Floyd!
I'm sorry but these are the only pictures I could find from my military days...

GROUP PHOTO: That's me with my 81 mm Mortar and pack on... CHRISTMAS of 1955 on OKINAWA, Camp Napunja/Sukiran..

In the Group left to right, Me (Duke Rohlffs) on the left in the striped shirt, then Mike Kelly, Harold Schreiner (seated), Anthony Munoz (standing), Ed Rheinhardt, John Stegman.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Semper Fi,
Duke

P.S.
Addendum to my previous email about my USMC service...

While I was at the Naval Academy in 1957/58, my room-mate, Clifford R. Dunning graduated and served with honor and distinction in Viet Nam AND came back to Command the 1st Recon Bn. 1970/71.

Floyd,
Are you available to assist?

This is a simple donation task, 1st Recon Bn Association needs some gift cards for donation to Veterans at Hospice Palliative care units for preventive items and medication from Disease due to their vulnerability. I will be liable for the reimbursement.

Good evening to all,

Thanks for the updates, the Treasurer’s job never ends.

What were the final sales figures for the reunion?

I still have a number of buckles and coins and the black shirts. I am going to offer the shirts at fire sale cost of $15 and postage. These shirts are all mammoth-petite. Does anyone have an objection to that.

Happy New Year

Rememberring our Brothers

I'm just a simple old warrior who served in the uniform of this country's military in War who loves to discuss all aspects of life. It is my firm conviction that if one understands what caused the war, how the war was conducted, and the Reconstruction Years that followed, one will know what this country is about.

I am seeking Marines and Corpsmen who worked on Hill 119,the Delta Company OP. I am doing research and would like to talk with and interview anyone you went up to the hill for duty. The research is in support f an upcoming book centered on Hill 119 in late 1969 and 1970 era.

New update as of 8/12/2024, from the 52 emails that kick back 9 members have been found to be deceased to date.

This fact is shocking to me. This is the first time in 8 years that I've had such a high percentage of deceased.
